Tips For Starting Violin Lessons & Practicing
My tips for starting violin lessons and practicing are:
1) Get excited about learning a new instrument! It is so cool to be learning something new, especially something like the violin which is such a rewarding and fun instrument to play. The more enthusiasm and excitement for learning you have, the more enjoyable lessons and practicing can be!
2) Listen to violin music! Hearing what you will be able to play one day is so encouraging, and personally it helps me get excited for what my future playing will bring!
3) Practice a little bit every day! Practicing does not have to be a long slog every day. 10-15 minutes at the max is what I recommend for beginner players. This little bit of time every day will do wonders to improve your playing, without taking away the joy of learning.
4) Get your family involved! Learning is always more fun with other people, and the same goes for learning the violin. Whether it is with your practicing partner, or the whole family, listening to music, and playing for them is a great way to get everyone involved and excited about music.
5) Make it fun! I always say “if you aren’t having fun learning the violin, you aren’t doing it right”! My students have fun while they are learning, whether through stickers as motivation to practice, or playing games like Simon Says or Red Light Green Light.
Violin lessons and practicing should be fun and exciting, not boring and difficult.
All the best!
