Names of Guitar strings
Names of guitar parts
Setting up your foot stool
How to tune a guitar
Strumming
Simple songs in various styles, progressing to more challenging repertoire

Beginner Guitar Lessons

We offer beginner guitar lesson in Winnipeg for all ages.

Lesson Times: 30 min. 45 min. 1 hour

Students will learn:

Tuning
Guitar part names and parts
Songs in any style
How to change your strings
Call & Response, Echo, introduction into playing lead guitar
Music notation, dynamics, how to count subdivisions
Scales and chords
Chart reading/analysis
RCM examinations (optional), students can receive high school credits.
Ear training exercises and games
Performance and scholarship opportunities
A meeting between the student and their guitar instructor discussing goals, and objectives, takes place before lessons begin, and is reviewed on a yearly basis.

Intermediate Guitar Lessons - Program

Prerequisites: It is recommended that students have 2-5 years of instruction before signing up for our intermediate guitar program. Students can sign up for our intermediate guitar program any time of year.

Lesson Times: 30 min. 45 min. 1 hour

Students will learn:

Songs in any style, (option of performing with band)
Different styles of music (focus on one style or multiple)
Chord progressions
Song writing and composition
Call and response/ear training (rhythms and melody)
In-depth study of rhythm and lead playing
Playing the sequences and loop machines
Major and minor scales, arpeggios, triads and modes
Analyzing and emulating other guitar players for technique, sound, and style
Basic recording techniques
Advance theory
Soloing and rhythm playing
Chart reading/analysis
Compound and odd time signatures
RCM guitar examinations (optional)
Performance and scholarship opportunities (optional)

Students have the option of focusing one or more of the above in detail.

A meeting between student and their instructor will take place discussing goals, and objectives, before classes begin, and is reviewed on a yearly basis.

Prerequisites: It is recommended that students have 5 or more years of instruction before signing up for our advanced guitar program. Students can sign up any time of year via “Meet & Greet”.

Studying many styles of music (optional)
In-depth studies in one or more, styles of music, (Rock, pop, jazz, classical)
Ethnic and traditional styles
Advanced songs/compositions
Advanced chart reading/analysis
Charting out songs
Song writing and composition
Advanced soloing and rhythm playing
Odd time signatures
Advance ear training
Improvising
Advanced recording and sequencing
Overdubbing guitar parts
Advance theory and harmonization
RCM classical guitar examinations (optional)

Our School Philosophy

Groove Academy–School of Music provides you with a high standard of music education. All students and instructors come up with a clear plan, discuss goals and direction, before enrollment.
Our music programs, are designed to adapt to each student’s needs and how they learn best, (audio, visual, and/or kinesthetic). As a result, each student receives customized lessons based around what their needs are to progress to the next level.
Groove Academy insures you are learning from highly qualified instructors. All of our instructors are RCM qualified, hold a university or college degree and are “in” the music business with extensive performance and teaching experience.
Providing students with an abundance of performance and scholarship opportunities, our students gain stage experience at Groove Academy events and local events around Winnipeg, nationally and internationally, (all performances are optional). All students have the opportunity to perform in band or as soloists through out the year.
