Groove Academy – School of Music offers you:

Groove Academy is proud to have a woodwind/brass teacher who achieved an A.R.C.T. in clarinet performance. We are careful to make sure that all students learn the basics (embouchure, tone production, and articulation) properly, to achieve a solid foundation.

We also offer jazz and contemporary studies to woodwind/brass players as well. Students in grades 9 to 12 are eligible to receive up to four additional credits throughout high school if practical and theory exam requirements are met. Our School Philosophy

  1. Groove Academy–School of Music provides you with a high standard of music education. All students and instructors come up with a clear plan, discuss goals and direction, before enrollment. Our music programs, are designed to adapt to each student’s needs and how they learn best, (audio, visual, and/or kinesthetic). As a result, each student receives customized music lessons.
  2. Groove Academy insures you are learning from highly qualified instructors. All of our instructors are RCM qualified, hold a university or college degree and are “in” the music business.
  3. Providing our students with an abundance of performance and scholarship opportunities, our students gain stage experience at Groove Academy events and local events around Winnipeg, nationally and internationally, (all performances are optional).

Clarinet Programs:

6-Week Intro Program

This is a six week intro program for complete beginners. Students will learn embouchure (mouth) formation, basic fingerings, proper hand position, articulation (tonguing and slurring), as well as learning to read music and instrument care.

Beginner Program

Students will become proficient in breathing, correct posture, finger techniques, articulation, and reading and counting music properly. They will also learn proper care and maintenance of their instruments. Students will work on scales, triads, and arpeggios to achieve a solid foundation in their technique. They will also learn etudes and performance pieces specifically for their chosen woodwind instrument. They will also learn etudes and performance pieces.

Intermediate Program

This program follows the RCM syllabus from grades one through six. Students will learn technical fundamentals such as scales, arpeggios, and dominant seventh broken chords. Students will learn to play musically and expressively. There is a strong emphasis on etudes in order to build technique, which will enable students to play with emotion.

Advanced Program

This program follows the RCM syllabus from grades eight through ten. Students will cover all 12 major and minor scales, arpeggios, and dominant and diminished 7th broken chords. They will study the standard clarinet repertoire of the great classical composers, and learn complex etudes in a variety of time and key signatures. At this level, students will have achieved strong breath control to ensure beautiful musical phrasing.

University Preparation Program

This program is only for students who wish to pursue music as a career. It follows the RCM syllabus of the A.R.C.T. level. Students will learn the repertoire that is expected of a professional clarinet player, such as the Weber and Mozart Concertos, and Brahms Sonatas.
