Cymbal Stand

Lets take a look at the cymbal stand part names.
Starting from the bottom we have the legs and the rubber feet.  The rubber feet help prevent slippage and floor markings and the legs provide stability and maneuverability.

Adjustments

Leg Adjustment

The leg adjustment wingnut enables you to bring in the legs closer or to provide more of a spread.
Generally, you want to have one leg facing your seating position to prevent the stand from falling towards you.

Height Adjustment

In the above diagram, we have 2 height adjustment wingnuts.  When loosened, you can raise or lower the cymbal stand.  Remember to always hold the top part of the stand when loosening to ensure the stand doesn’t crash down, (no pun intended:)

Boom Tilt & Boom Adjustment

The cymbal stand tilt and boom adjustment allows you to tilt the angel of the boom arm and also allows you to bring the cymbal closer to you.  Extremely helpful if you want the stand further away but still

want the cymbal close.

Cymbal Tilt

The cymbal tilt allows you to angel the cymbal towards you or have it more flat.  Be sure that you have a cymbal sleeve so that you don’t have metal against metal.

Cymbal Stand Tilt adjustment

At the top of the cymbal stand we have a wingnut, the threaded rod the cymbal would go over, 2 felts and the cymbal washer and sleeve.
You would want to have the cymbal resting on one of the felts and the other felt on top of the cymbal, before you put the wingnut on.
Although purely subjective, and a matter of preference, some drummers do leave the top felt off, which allows the cymbal to move more freely.
