How to hook up a bass drum pedal
Learn to hook up a bass drum pedal in 3 easy steps.
1. First, your want to loosen the hoop clamp. Depending on your pedal, this could be a wingnut or a round knob. This could be either located right on top of the hoop clamp or off to the side of the pedal, (usually the right side). Just a few turns are sufficient.
We will need to make sure there is enough room of the hoop to slide in between the bottom plate, and the bottom of the hoop clap.
Parts of a Bass Drum Pedal
Make sure there is enough room for the hoop to slide in between the bottom plate, and the bottom of the hoop clap.
2. After the hoop clamp is loose, tilt your bass drum forward lifting from the top of the bass drum hoop. Then, slip the bass drum pedal in so that the slides in between the bottom plate and hoop clamp as shown below.
3. Ensure the pedal is center of bass drum, then tighten the pedal. If when you begin to tighten the pedal, you notice the bass drum starting to tilt left or right, this means the pedal is not centered. So, you will have to loosen the pedal and try to re-center again. In the picture above, the hoop clamp wing nut is to the far left.
Remember: Some hoop clamp adjustments are to the side of the pedal, and others are on top of the hoop clamp it self, as shown below.
Knowing the parts of a drum set will help you now how to and what to adjust to maximize your comfortability behind the drum set.
