Ages: 4-5

Groove Academy’s Violin for Preschoolers Program, enforces all the basics and good habits one should have from the beginning. Students are guided through each level of learning to play the violin, in a fun and interactive way, using a variety of teaching aids, methods and programs including Suzuki, RCM, and contemporary.

Students will learn:

• Names of Strings
• Naming violin parts
• How to tune
• How to hold your instrument
• Preparing your bow
• Bowing techniques
• Music theory games and exercises
• Ear training/call and response
• Simple melodies, nursery songs
• Scales
• Performance and scholarship opportunities

Ages: 5 and up

Groove Academy’s beginner violin lessons are intended for violinists who have never played before, or who have no previous musical experience or background. Our Beginner Violin Program, insures all students have a solid foundation and a clear understanding of the basics. Once the basics are covered, the student has the option of continuing studies through various programs and styles.

Duration: Typically, students are ready to move onto the next level within 2-3 years of instruction.

Students will learn:

• Beginner repertoire (RCM preparatory – grade 5, or equivalent)
• Naming and describing violin parts
• Bow techniques, whole bow, staccato, martele, detache
• Sight reading
• Tonality
• Dynamics and expression
• Major and minor scales, arpeggios
• Double stop scales
• Time signatures
• Ear training
• Beginner music theory
• Performance and scholarship opportunities

This program includes both a performance book and theory book.

Ages: 6 and up

Our Intermediate Violin Program, are intended for violinists who have some musical background, and previous knowledge of the instrument. Groove Academy’s Intermediate Violin Program, enforces musicality, stage presence, dynamic expression and performance preparation/opportunities. Our intermediate violin program also begins to focus on various bow techniques, vibrato and expressiveness through body movement.

Duration: Typically, students are ready to move onto the next level within 3-4 years of instruction.

Students will learn:

• Intermediate repertoire (RCM grades 5-8, or equivalent)
• Bow techniques, spiccato/collé strokes, brush stroke,
• Vibrato
• Sight reading
• Ear training
• Major and minor scales, arpeggios, dominant, diminished
• 2 Octave chromatic scales
• Musicality, expression
• Performance and scholarship opportunities

Groove Academy’s Advanced Violin Program ensure that students will develop total command, control, finesse and expressiveness of the instrument. It is a great accomplishment to have reached this level of playing, and many of Groove Academy’s students have gone onto continue their studies from here at a university or college level.

Students will learn:

• Advanced repertoire (RCM grades 8-ARCT, or equivalent)
• Bow techniques, spiccato, sautillé and ricochet strokes
• Varied vibrato
• Musicality, expression, precise intonation,
• 3 & 4 Octave scales, chromatic, arpeggios, artificial harmonics,
• Double stop scales
• Dominant 7th, diminished 7th
• Sight reading
• Ear training, chords, cadences, intervals, playback
• University/college preparation
• Performance and scholarship opportunities
